Cara Wilcox, Ph.D. is an animal welfare researcher, with expertise in commercial poultry welfare. Currently a Research Associate at the University of Bristol, UK on poultry related DEFRA and RSPCA funded projects. Cara obtained her Ph.D. in 2026 from Universitas Padjadjaran, on the status and assessment of broiler chicken welfare in West Java, Indonesia. Cara lived in Indonesia for 10 years, and previously worked in the field of primatology research, conservation, and wildlife protection in NGOs there and around the world. Her interests are in applied animal welfare research, farm animal welfare, wildlife and conversation, animal advocacy and ethics. Her MSc from the University of Edinburgh investigated the behaviour and welfare of slow lorises that had been illegally traded, rescued and released back into the wild. Cara is also a member of the Animal Welfare Research Network (AWRN).
