Clara Voorhees, Ph.D. is Professor of Biology and Vice Chair of Student Affairs for the Department of Arts and Sciences at D’Youville University in Buffalo, NY. Focusing on animal behavior and education, she studied the American Crow for her dissertation and currently she studies the science of teaching and learning (SOTL) and spider population ecology in urban campus buildings. She publishes work on using charismatic species to engage students and on educational interventions to increase engagement and retention. She has served as her university’s IACUC chairperson since 2013 and oversees animal care and welfare on campus. She earned her Ph.D. in Animal Behavior and Education at Binghamton University and her B.S. in Environmental Forest Biology at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
