Sarah Totton, MSc, DVM, Ph.D., is a veterinary epidemiologist. She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College and subsequently won an OVC DVM/Ph.D. Fellowship. Her Ph.D. thesis project involved assessing the impact on stray dog welfare of a spay/neuter/rabies vaccination program in Jodhpur, India. Prior to becoming a vet, Sarah worked as a wildlife biologist, and her Master’s thesis entailed gathering data on raccoon behavior in the field to help the Ministry of Natural Resources in planning their oral rabies vaccine baiting program.

Sarah’s research covers animal health and welfare across a wide range of domestic species (cats, dogs, dairy and beef cattle, and poultry) as well as wildlife. She works as an independent contractor, primarily involved in research synthesis (scoping reviews, systematic reviews, and meta-analysis). She has worked with the Public Health Agency of Canada, the University of Guelph, and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
