Dr. Heuberger is a Professor of Nutrition at Central Michigan University. She received her degrees in Food Sciences, Nutrition Sciences and Dietetics from the University of California Berkeley and her Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Wisconsin Madison. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in Nutritional Epidemiology at the UW Madison Medical School. She is a Registered Dietitian and is certified in Systematic Reviews by the World Health Organization and Cochrane Collaboration. She is also a Certified Obesity Specialist and Gerontologist. She has been Chair of the Medical Nutrition Council and a long-standing member of the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition. She has authored over a hundred publications and is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Nutrition in Geriatrics and Gerontology. Her research interests include gerontology, nutritional issues in hospice and palliation, thanatology and feeding and hydration at the end of life.

Dr. Heuberger is the founder and executive director of a charitable 501c3 organization that provides support to animal rescue groups and sanctuaries, with particular emphasis on geriatric animals that require specialized nutritional care.
