Sabrina Brando is a psychologist (BSc Psychology, MSc Animal Studies, Ph.D. Psychology) who has been working at the intersection of animal, human, and planetary wellbeing since 1989.
Sabrina served as the inaugural Director of Animal Welfare for the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and advises the AZA Animal Welfare Committee and ZAA Animal Welfare SAG.
Her work spans 24/7 animal wellbeing, habitat management, and the human-animal relationship, as well as the occupational wellbeing of the people who care for them — including resilience, organizational culture, and the systemic conditions that allow employees to flourish. Through the One Care approach, she works with institutions to build cultures of care rooted in the belief that wellbeing is inseparable across species and systems.
Her research interests include animal welfare science, occupational wellbeing in animal care and conservation professionals, human-animal interconnectedness, and One Care frameworks. She co-edited Optimal Welfare of Ageing Wild Animals in Human Care (Springer Nature, 2023), has forthcoming titles with Taylor & Francis and Routledge, and is writing Wild About Self-Care.
Through AnimalConcepts and InterBeing, Sabrina connects professionals and organizations across six continents — rooted in the belief that the flourishing of all life is inseparable.
