Kenneth Shapiro earned his BA from Harvard University and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Duke University. He is cofounder of the Animals and Society Institute. He is founder of Society and Animals: Journal of Human-Animal Studies; cofounder of Journal of Applied Animal Welfare Science; and founding editor of the Brill Human-Animal Studies book series. He is one of the developers of AniCare® Adult and AniCare® Child . Shapiro is also the author of Animal Models of Human Psychology: Critique of Science, Ethics and Policy and articles on the state of the field, vegetarianism, animal protection activism, and the link between human violence and animal abuse.
