Lori Kogan, Ph.D.

Lori Kogan, Ph.D., is a Professor of Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University and Co-Director of the Animal-Human Policy Center. A psychologist and interdisciplinary researcher, her work focuses on human–animal relationships and the interconnected well-being of people and animals, with particular emphasis on companion animals, veterinary medicine, animal welfare, and the social and policy contexts that shape human–animal relationships.

Dr. Kogan serves as Chair of the Human-Animal Interaction Section of the American Psychological Association, the Editor-in-Chief of Human-Animal Interactions and the Director of Research for IAAHPC (International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care). She has published extensively on topics including the human–animal bond, companion animal loss and end-of-life care, access to veterinary care, veterinary professional well-being, and the role of animals in human health and quality of life. Her current work examines how research on human–animal relationships can inform policy and practice to improve outcomes for animals and the people who care for them.
